TRY-OUT INFORMATION

EVERY player must register online and needs to be cleared through the activities office and our athletic trainer prior to receiving a helmet and beginning the try-out. Click this link to register for athletics at W-L and submit all of your required information.  Time/days waiting on paperwork or getting a physical to be "cleared" in August count as try-out days. Players will receive a 3 day tryout beginning on Monday, August 1st and concluding on Wednesday, August 3rd. Players will receive an evaluation at the end of the third day. Players who do not make the team may schedule a meeting with the coaching staff to discuss their evaluation.

If you are unable to be at the try-out (8/1-8/3) you need to let Coach Shapiro know before the end of school Friday, June 17th. If you fail to do so you will not be given a tryout.

All players must report to camp by August 8th. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you cannot be in camp by August 8th there will be no season for you.

2022 SEASON INFO

  • The 2022 season starts on August 1st. All players will try out and receive an evaluation after completing three practices. The Varsity and JV teams will have cuts after the third practice.
  • Tryout dates/times are 8/1 - 8/3, 3:30pm - 6:30pm. Players should arrive at 3:00pm.
  • Players are strongly encouraged to attend conditioning sessions in June and July. Conditioning sessions will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-10:30am. Wear athletic attire, bring water, cleats and sneakers.
  • Take your family vacations in June and July. 
  • Training camp is when we acclimate to the heat, get our team in shape, put in our offensive, defensive schemes, and install our special teams.
  • Practice times in August before school starts are Mon - Fri 3:30pm - 6:30pm and Saturdays 9:00am - 11:30am
  • Once school begins for students, practice times are Mon - Thurs 3:30pm - 5:30pm and Saturdays 9:00am - 11:30am. 
  • Attendance is paramount and the cornerstone to our program's success

SUMMER CONDITIONING SCHEDULE

Summer conditioning workout begin on Tuesday, June 21st. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors will work out on Monday's, Tuesday's and Thursday's from 9:00am-10:30am.

The dates for those workouts are as follows:

June 21, 23, 27, 28, 30

July 4th-8th WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY CONDITIONING WORKOUTS DUE TO A VHSL (STATE RULE)

July 11, 12, 14, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26

Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors will come in and be fitted for their helmets on Thursday, July 28th at 9:00 am.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE OFF-SEASON

  1. All off-season workouts are optional per APS guidelines.

  2. Football players are encouraged to participate in other sports.

  3. Weight training is made available in the mornings and afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Morning times are from 7:30-8:10 and after school times are 3:15-4:15

  4. We can’t compete if we don’t get stronger. Meaning lifting is STRONGLY encouraged.

  5. Percentages of strength gains will be different based on individuals consistency, form, nutrition, body type, genetics etc.

  6. Strength tests will occur every 5 weeks. Results are documented.
