CoEd Cross Country
The VHSL voted to postpone all sports seasons. That means Cross Country is now scheduled to take place during 'Season 2' from February 15 – May 1.
For now (but subject to change) Cross Country will continue to have optional summer conditioning on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with social distancing measures and screening procedures (for more information see Optional Summer Conditioning post below). Since our season is delayed, we will NOT start practicing regularly in the mornings on August 3rd as previously planned.
Please contact Coach Rigali (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
APS is currently allowing fall sports to hold summer conditioning practices under strict social distancing rules. WL Cross Country will hold optional summer sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings July 9th- TBD.
Each athlete will be required to bring their own MASK and at least 32 oz of WATER. No mask/no water = no practice
Screening Upon arrival: A coach will document the individual’s name, take their temperature (less than 100.5) and ask a series of questions about symptoms, if they brought water/mask etc. – If an athlete has a fever (even after the second temperature scan), any symptoms or they don't have 32 oz of water and a mask then that individual will be sent home. If the individual is cleared, this person will head directly to the practice field.
During practice athletes will be stationed 10 feet apart from each other and lead through stretches/strengthening exercises. As mentioned in the summer training plan, stretching and strengthening are very important to a runner’s success!
Summer Conditioning is 100% optional. Attendance will only be taken for contact tracing.
Athletes wishing to attend Summer Conditioning should sign up for the XC team here and MUST SIGN UP AHEAD OF TIME for a summer conditioning group here. Once signed up for a summer conditioning group an athlete will remain in the group they signed up for all of Summer Conditioning.
If you have any questions, please contact Coach Rigali email@example.com
Runners of all abilities are welcome, and there are no try-outs. Significant commitment is required from all as we do follow a rigorous training schedule that our athletes find both challenging and rewarding.
Please sign-up for the team prior to attending your first practice and after reading the team rules.
Each athlete must have a current physical (dated 5/1/20 or more recent). The following paperwork must be turned into the activities office before the first day of practice: VHSL Physical and APS participation agreement. Students cannot participate in practice without a physical.
In a typical (non-pandemic) year the team meets every weekday, Monday-Friday, until the end of the season and every athlete will have the opportunity to run a five 5km races. Runners who meet certain qualifications may have the opportunity to compete in large invitationals on the weekends and post season championship races. The number of races and type of races available, as well as the dates of the season are subject to change for 20-21 school year given the COVID-19 pandemic.
