Voluntary Conditioning Workout

APS is allowing fall sports to begin conditioning under strict social distancing guidelines. Football’s fourth conditioning workout will take place on Wednesday, July 15th from 8am-9am and another session has been added from 9:30-10:30. ONLY SIGN UP FOR ONE. We are offering another workout session because of social distancing guidelines and the number of participants. Students must leave the premises immediately following the conclusion of the workout. If your son plans on attending Monday's workout please fill out the Google form link which is located at the bottom of this page. Space is limited to the first 45 participants due to social distancing guidelines.

  1. These workouts are voluntary! While pre-screening will be performed prior to the workout and social distancing guidelines followed throughout the entire workout, APS and it’s coaches cannot guarantee that the corona virus may not be transmitted.
  2. Each athlete must have at least 32oz of water, a mask, and pass a series of criteria/questions before being admitted to the workout:

A digital thermometer temperature check will be done prior to entering the stadium field (if the temperature is greater than 100.4 the student must go HOME)

Freshmen Football Practice Schedule

Any questions regarding the Freshmen football team should be sent to either James Siddall (, Head Freshman Football Coach or Adam Moir, Director of Football Operations (

The freshman football season will begin with three optional (strongly encouraged) conditioning practices. The times for these workouts will be as follows:

Wednesday, August 5th from 9-11 AM. Players should dress in athletic attire and have sneakers and football cleats.

Thursday, August 6th from 4-6 PM. Players should dress in athletic attire and have sneakers and football cleats.

Friday, August 7th from 9-11 AM. Again, players should dress in athletic attire and have sneakers and football cleats.

Monday, August 10th at 7:00 PM there will be a mandatory player/parent meeting in the commons.

Freshmen Football Clearance Process

To be cleared to participate on an Athletic team at Washington-Lee High School, the following guidelines need to be met.

    1. The student – athlete MUST be A) enrolled at W-L or  B) APS HS where W-L is their “home school” (within boundaries) or  C) an 8th grader who lives within the W-L boundaries. (Eighth graders are allowed to participate in the high school sports that are not offered at their middle school level)
    2. The student – athlete must have a completed VHSL Physical Form and Participation Agreement FormA NEW Physical is needed for each school year. The exam must have been “completed after May 1st of the beginning of that school year.” For example: If it is currently the 2017 – 2018 school year, the physical must take place after May 1st, 2017. After it is complete, this form must be turned into our Athletic Trainer at 3PM any school day.
    3. The Arlington Public Schools Parent Athletic Participation Agreement form must be signed and turned in with the VHSL physical form. Both forms are to be submitted to the Athletic Trainer.     4. All student – athletes must have VALID / CURRENT Health Insurance. Information on school insurance can be found at the Activities Office or School Accident Insurance More detailed information is available here.
    5. The student – athlete needs to have met the VHSL guidelines to be eligible to participate. There are some exceptions to the rules listed below. An appeal can be considered and granted by the VHSL if an athlete presents a valid, compelling case. If you have any questions concerning these guidelines, more information can be found at the VHSL link on the left or by calling the Athletic Department Office.
To be eligible to represent Washington – Lee HS in any VHSL interscholastic athletic contest, you …
  • Must be a regular bona fide student in good standing of the school you represent.
  • Must be enrolled in the last four years of high school. (Eighth-grade students may be eligible for Junior Varsity).
  • Must have enrolled not later than the fifteenth day of the current semester.
  • Must be currently enrolled in not fewer than five subjects.
  • Must have passed at least 5 subjects at the conclusion of the last semester.
  • Must sit out all VHSL competition for 365 consecutive calendar days following a school transfer unless the transfer corresponded with a family move.
  • Must NOT have reached your nineteenth birthday on or before the first day of August of the current school year.
  • Must NOT, after entering the ninth grade for the first time, have been enrolled in or been eligible for enrollment in high school more than eight consecutive semesters.
  • Must have submitted a completed Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form.
  • Must NOT be in violation of VHSL Amateur, Awards, All Star or College Team Rules.
