Update

The recent VHSL announcement has given some clarity about the start of the basketball season. The plan is for tryouts to begin on December 14th, with the first game potentially being played on December 28th.

We do not yet have any information about the scheduling of green days or conditioning sessions. However, you should be conditioning on your own, and please make sure you read the message below for thoughts about our unique offseason circumstances.

We will update this page with any new information as it becomes available. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to the coaches if you have any questions or concerns - our emails are at the bottom of the page.

Message from the coaches

To all current and prospective basketball players,

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer as much the present circumstances allow. First things first, we know there is some uncertainty about the upcoming sports seasons, and we share the same concerns you do about how our basketball program will be affected. We don’t have any information that isn’t publicly available already, but as you should know by now, any decision made by APS (or state-wide) can be quickly be changed.

With that in mind, it’s important to acknowledge that such uncertainty, and the wider impact of COVID, can have significant effects on us – both mentally and emotionally. You’ve heard us say that we care about your growth as players, students, and human beings. That last one is most important to us, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need someone to talk to. We don’t have all the answers because we’re going through this just the same as you, but we’re happy to listen and chat about whatever is on your mind.

All that being said, please know that the coaches are already thinking about the upcoming season – however it may look. With the disruption to this past school year, we didn’t have a chance to come together as whole program and commemorate the success we had at all three levels. We took big strides forward, and every player should be proud of what we accomplished last season.

Now we want to build on those successes, and while it’s frustrating that we can’t prepare like we did last year with summer and fall leagues, that doesn’t mean we can’t be ready to pick up where we left off. First, the onus is on you to be prepared physically and mentally whenever we get back to team-wide activities. One undeniable truth: pickup games prepare you for pickup basketball. Getting better at the high school level requires a commitment to conditioning and regular practice through individual drills. Please use the coaches as resources – we’ll be happy to talk about areas of your game that need improvement and how to address them. Also, you should make a point to encourage and challenge one another. This can be anything from a simple check-in to organizing a workout virtually. We can’t forget that all the success we had last year came through the collective effort of teammates.

AGAIN, WE DO NOT HAVE AN ISOLATED FOCUS HERE. BEFORE WE GET INTO ANYTHING BASKETBALL-RELATED, WE WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU’RE DOING AND WHAT YOU’VE BEEN UP TO OUTSIDE OF BASKETBALL. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE PROGRAM, FEEL FREE TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO US. OUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS BELOW:
