Great job on our last regular season meet! Despite all the ups and downs, changes and the pause we had a great season. I hope next year we can get back to our usual type of season with a bit more fun/socializing and a little less COVID stuff! :)
Here is all the info you need to know for this week. TUESDAY - PICS We have our rescheduled team pictures on Tuesday, 1/25. EVERYONE please attend practice (we will get going right at 315pm) and be IN your team suit. Club swimmers will continue with their one practice a week schedule, if they are swimming in Districts. SENIOR NIGHT - POOL DECORATIONS, FRIDAY 1/28 We will be decorating the pool for our seniors on Friday of District prelims, January 28th. We will ask ALL non-seniors to stay after school on Friday (whether you are swimming in Districts or not) to help us get the pool set up. We intend to be done with set up by 345/4pm so please hustle over right after school. DISTRICTS INFO District DIVING is scheduled to be held Jan 26 (girls) and 27 (boys), with the meet starting at 530pm - Coach Kristen will share more information with the divers who will be participating. Attached is the District swim lineup. District SWIMMING is scheduled for Jan 28th and 29th with warmups starting at 4pm (for us). The meet will start at 530pm. More info on Districts to follow after my seeding and coaches meeting Monday night. **NEW SWIMMERS ONLY: If you have a USA Swimming ID - please make sure you’ve sent those to Mr. Eliot at philip.eliot@gmail.com. If you have any questions, please let me know. Best, Coach Kristina4.0 months ago @ 9:17AM
Hi all,
Well...we are in the final week of our regular season - despite the ups and downs, you all did your best and continued to work hard. Thank you for that! Daily testing is back, so please be sure you are doing that if you feel more comfortable and/or have any (even small) symptoms. Please aim to get your tests done during GP so you aren't late to practice. Today is basically the last day you can test positive and still participate in Districts... so stay healthy, friends!
Here is all the info you need to know for this week and next.
THURSDAY
Reminder - we will have team pictures on Thursday, 1/20. Please attend practice (we will get going right at 315pm) and be IN your team suit.
FRIDAY MEET vs Wakefield - @Wakefield
*There will be NO bus to the pool - please make plans to meet us there and get a ride home from the meet.
*Also, 'no-shows' to the meet without any notice is just plain rude. You wouldn't do that to a boss, at school, etc -- please be sure you are communicating as EARLY AS POSSIBLE if your status changes. Otherwise, our expectation is that you are AT the meet whether you are swimming or not.
Divers: Arrival at 445pm, warmups will begin at 5pm. The meet will start at 530pm.
Swimmers - Please arrive by 515pm to watch diving, before we start warmups. The goal is to start the swim meet around 645pm, if not a little earlier. It will be Wakefield's senior night. Please be respectful of their team and seniors during this time (the break between 50 free and 100 fly).
PARENTS: Please arrive around 6pm if you are volunteering. Sign up here to volunteer - we've been short on timers at our last few meets, so please consider helping out: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4aa9ac22a13-wl202122
THANK YOU: I'd like also to give a big shout out to Phyllis Cuttino (Alexis Lee's mom) - over the last few years she has served as our 'head official' and helped coordinate our volunteers on that front. Thank you so much, Phyllis! Also, Gretchen Mowery and Skye Donovan have faithfully led our timing group and been reliable and constant presence on our pool deck. You will both be missed (Gretchen has been with us for the better part of 8 years)! Finally, thank you to Jessica Deering for your help - she stepped in last year to learn a whole new way of swim stuff with our computer efforts and has been a regular table worker for us, as well. We'll be looking for help next year as we graduate a large number of seniors (22!) and their (very) involved parent group...just an early heads up! :)
NEXT WEEK (1/24 Week)
Practice next week is ONLY for those swimmers who will be participating in the District swim meet. Others are welcome, but it is no longer mandatory. Club swimmers will continue with their one practice a week schedule. I will be sending out the District lineup on Sunday so you will know if you need to be at practice or not.
SENIOR NIGHT - POOL DECORATIONS, FRIDAY 1/28
We will be decorating the pool for our seniors on Friday of District prelims, January 28th. We will ask all non-seniors to stay after school on Friday (whether you are swimming in Districts or not) to help us get the pool set up. We intend to be done with set up by 345/4pm so please hustle over right after school.
DISTRICTS INFO
District DIVING is scheduled to be held Jan 26 (girls) and 27 (boys), with the meet starting at 530pm - Coach Kristen will share more information with the divers who will be participating.
District SWIMMING is scheduled for Jan 28th and 29th with warmups starting at 4pm (for us). The meet will start at 530pm. The meet will be run in normal championship format, following the usual event order. Prelims will be Friday, Finals Saturday. Relays will ONLY be swum on Saturday. The top TEN places will advance to regionals.
PARENTS: Tickets will go on sale online (GoFan app or website) and we will receive codes for purchasing tickets. (I do not have them yet.) We will prioritize senior parents first, then others. We will only allow spectators of those swimmers who qualify for finals to purchase tickets for Saturday/finals (obviously). I have room for one more parent to be a 'Marshal' on Saturday - you basically just stand on deck and make sure the kids follow the right 'flow' for getting to and from the blocks. Let me know if you are interested! I will send out our volunteer list with the District lineup on Sunday.
**NEW SWIMMERS ONLY: If you have a USA Swimming ID - please send those to Mr. Eliot who is helping coordinate our computer/data efforts this year. His email is: philip.eliot@gmail.com
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Best,
Coach Kristina

First, thank you for bearing with us as we figure out our new schedule. I really appreciate your being flexible! Also, please be sure you are doing your part to stay healthy as we get back in to the 'swim of things' - masks and some basic social distancing will help us get through the next two weeks. I'm told daily testing will resume next week, so please do that if it would make you more comfortable.
Given that we are focused on in person academic learning and keeping the season going with a healthy team, we will be suspending dinners for this week and next week (that means no dinner tonight or next Thursday). Here is our schedule for the rest of the week and next.
PRACTICE THIS WEEK
We have regular practice both today AND tomorrow (Friday). Club swimmers, you must attend one practice this week.
SATURDAY MEET vs McLEAN - @WL
Divers: Arrival at 415pm, warmups will begin at 430pm.
Swimmers - Please arrive by 515pm to watch diving, before we start warmups. Swim warmups will start around 6pm and the meet should start by 630pm.
PARENTS: We have been asked to limit spectators to close family only. Just FYI.
Please arrive around 615pm if you are volunteering. Sign up here to volunteer - we've been short on timers at our last few meets, so please consider helping out: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4aa9ac22a13-wl202122
WL 2021-22 Swim - Meet Volunteers It takes 24 WL parent volunteers to run each meet. Please support our swimmers by signing up and volunteering. www.signupgenius.com |
NEXT WEEK
We will have regular practice next week. Our meet on Friday has moved to an AWAY meet at Wakefield. We will not have a bus available and given proximity, will ask everyone to meet us at Wakefield pool for the meet. More specifics on time to follow in next week's email.
Also - we will be having our team pictures during practice on January 20th - everyone should plan to attend and be in your TEAM SUIT.
Here is the info about Districts for 2022
DISTRICTS INFO
District DIVING is scheduled to be held Jan 26 (boys) and 27 (girls), with the meet starting at 530pm - Coach Kristen will share more information with the divers who will be participating.
District SWIMMING is scheduled for Jan 28/29 with warmups starting at 4pm (for us). The meet will start at 530pm.
For the swim meet -- the meet will be run in normal championship format, following the usual event order. Prelims will be Friday, Finals Saturday. Relays will ONLY be swum on Saturday. The top TEN places will advance to regionals. Warmups will start at 4pm, the meet at 530pm on both nights.
*NEW INFO that we just received:
Only Competing team members + 10 additional (such Captains, non-competing Seniors, injured athletes, etc.) will be allowed on deck. There will only be 20 tickets per school, per night for spectators.
PARENTS: Tickets will go on sale online (GoFan app or website) and we will receive codes for purchasing tickets. We will prioritize senior parents first, then others. We will only allow spectators of those swimmers who qualify for finals to purchase tickets for Saturday/finals (obviously). If you know your swimmer will likely make finals, we will ask you not attend Friday so those parents of swimmers who will only swim in prelims can attend. They hope to live stream the event also. We have two open slots for on-deck Marshalls if you'd like to view the meet from the best seats in the house. Let me know! Also, I assigned timers (we have to provide 3 each night) but have two people repeating night to night. If you'd be interested in timing on Friday, I may have two slots open. Let me know!
SENIOR NIGHT
I'm sad to say, we will be postponing senior night. Our goal is to separate the two components of senior night -- the pool decorations and our team senior send off. We are aiming to do pool decorating for Friday of Districts, Jan 28. We will do the sendoff either in conjunction with the winter sports banquet night OR a separate night at my house, outside (like last year). I am so sorry that this will be the second year that we don't have our proper senior sendoff... that said, SENIORS: you have more time to get a video together, and I hope we can get that going again this year since we missed it last year! :)
Let me know if you have any questions - otherwise, see you at practice!
Best,
Kristina

Hi everyone! I miss you! I am looking forward to being back on deck (hopefully today)! Big shout out and huge thanks to the coaches + our volunteer, Dani for all their help over the last week and weekend while I was out!
Before I get to the info for this week, I wanted to remind everyone that attendance at meets is mandatory for varsity participation.
ALL absences MUST be communicated by email - not text or verbally - to ME (at this email address). Also, we start working on lineups on Monday and Tuesday. And in trying to get everyone in the meet, it takes us a lot of time to strategize and determine how best to do that and how to keep our lineup competitive. Hearing from people at 530pm (or not at all) on a Friday that you aren't able to make the meet, is not acceptable. If you KNOW you have a trip, if you KNOW you aren't feeling well earlier in the day - please do not wait until the last minute to communicate that with us. The earlier we know, the easier it is for us to make changes without impacting everyone in a more chaotic time. So please, if you can't make the meet for an approved, excused reason - please let me know ASAP (even for January)! Thank you to those of you who did/do let me know early about your status - it's so helpful and I really appreciate it.
Also - anyone interested in more gear? I've had one or two requests to reopen the store, so let me know and if we have enough folks, we can reopen.
NO DINNER - THURSDAY
We will have our last dinner of this year on Thursday. Dinner will be in the cafeteria at 630pm.
FRIDAY MEET vs LANGLEY - @WL
Divers: Please talk to Coach Kristen about your arrival plans.
Swimmers - Please arrive by 545pm to watch diving, before we start warmups.
Swim warmups will start around 615pm and the meet should start by 7pm.
PARENTS: Please arrive around 615pm if you are volunteering. Sign up here to volunteer - we've been short on timers, so please consider helping out
HOLIDAY BREAK PRACTICE @WL
Starting Monday, we will be in our holiday break practice schedule. Practices will be held at WL from 930am - 1130am on Monday thru Thursday (12/20-23) and then the following week, Tuesday thru Thursday (12/28-30). If you are in town, you are expected to be at practice. If you are out of town and have access to a pool, please try to get some swimming in. We have our first meet of the new year on January 7th when you get back from break!
Let me know if you have any questions! I will not be sending any emails over break - so we'll chat again here the first week of the new year! Happy Holidays and enjoy a safe and restful break from school (but not swimming)! :)
Best,
Kristina

First up, please consider daily testing if you are at all concerned. For Saturday, testing is offered at WL from 745am - 145pm. Please feel free to pop in on Saturday too (and for those required to get testing, please be sure you go).
Here is all the information for the upcoming week of meets. One quick reminder, you are expected to stay until the END of the meet, not leave when you are done swimming your events.
NO DINNER - THURSDAY
We will NOT be having dinner on Thursday out of an abundance of caution. Also, for those on our team who are participating, I hope the orchestra concert goes well! :)
FRIDAY MEET vs YORKTOWN - @WL
Divers: Please talk to Coach Kristen about your arrival plans.
Swimmers - Please arrive by 545pm to watch diving, before we start warmups.
Swim warmups will start around 615pm and the meet should start by 7pm.
*The lineup will be posted AT the pool so you can see what you are swimming when you arrive.
PARENTS: Please arrive around 615pm if you are volunteering. Specifically, we are looking for more officials. If you can help in that capacity, please email me and I will connect you with our head official (Phyllis). We can't run our meets without enough volunteers and really appreciate your help! Also, reminder to register as a volunteer
SATURDAY MEET vs MARSHALL - @Providence Rec Center (7572 Marc Dr. Falls Church, VA)
This is our only out-of-Arlington meet this season and our only Saturday dual meet. We will be taking a bus to the meet at Providence Rec Center (address above). Everyone is required to ride the bus TO the meet, but you can get a ride home with your parents after the meet ends (not with friends, just your own parents). Otherwise, the bus will return to WL after the meet for you to be picked up/leave from there.
Please meet at the WL pool entrance/parking lot at 445pm for the bus. The bus will leave by 5pm after we take quick attendance.
Diving will go first, then swim. Kristen will let the dive team and parents know the specific timeline. We will aim to start swim warmups around 7pm.
*We will read the lineups on the bus on the way to the meet, so everyone knows what they are swimming before arrival.
Parents for swim: Please arrive by 7pm if you are planning to volunteer for the meet. I am looking for a 'head' timer for our meet - please let me know if you can volunteer in that capacity.
As a reminder, Mrs. Auerbach and Coach Emma will be in charge on deck - please help them ensure we have a smooth meet weekend and I look forward to hearing how well you all do! Go Generals!
Let me know if you have any questions!
Best,
Kristina

Team:
We are heading into a busy weekend - hope you're all ready! Before I get to our schedule/info, few things up front...
First up, I realize that many of you are over achievers and doing many different things. And that's great, IF you are able to meet the commitments for ALL the things you're doing. I'd like to ask that you look at your schedules and make any adjustments that you are able to make to ensure you are meeting the requirements of varsity team membership -- we only have 8 weeks left of the season (with 2 of those being winter break), so in reality we are asking for 6 weeks of effort and attendance, focused on WL Swim & Dive. If you have standing appointments, extra curriculars, work, etc that conflict with a practice, dinner, or meet, maybe you could see if those could be adjusted for just 6 days over the next 8 weeks. Whether that is seeing if a different time for an appt might work for 6 Thursday's the whole year, finding someone to work for you, or attending WL practice and missing club the same day as dinners -- that effort will not only give you some practice at how best to balance all the things you want or need to do, but also allow you to ensure you are meeting all your commitments. I do this every week myself as I figure out how best to balance full time work in cybersecurity, two young kids at home, and coaching at WL! Let's do it together, team!
Also, I'd like to remind you that dinners and meets are MANDATORY for team participation. Obviously, if there are extenuating circumstances, you can chat with me - but the default should be that you are attending. If you can't make something, you must notify me in writing. Specifically, for meets, the earlier you can let us know if you will miss one, the better. But again, please make every effort to attend all the team functions.
Second, no more getting out in the middle of practice. If you must use the restroom during practice, we will make announcements for those breaks between sets. Too many of you are using it as an excuse to skip the hard stuff. No more! #sorrynotsorry Oh and shout out to Lewis for not skipping the hard stuff earlier this week. :)
DINNER - THURSDAY
Dinner will start at 630pm in the WL Cafeteria. Please bring your own drink and a dessert to share.
We will be going over the lineup at dinner (I do not email it out). Gear should be arriving tomorrow, and I will hand that out at dinner (if it's late, we will hand out on Friday before the meet starts). We will also be voting on captains at dinner - any senior is eligible for Captain!
MEET vs HERNDON - FRIDAY @WL
Divers: Please talk to Coach Kristen about your arrival plans.
Swimmers - Please arrive BY 545pm to watch diving, before we start warmups.
Swim warmups will start around 615pm and the meet should start by 7pm.
Also, for club swimmers -- if you are not swimming in the evening finals, the expectation is that you will attend the WL meet. We will work to keep your events 'easy' (relays, etc) -- if you're tapered for these meets, its a great time to get some cut times for High School swimming also! Please keep me posted on your status with finals as soon as you know.
PARENTS: Please sign up here for meets you are interested/available to work! Only parents who volunteer are allowed on deck for the meet - best seat in the house!
HOLIDAY BAZAAR - SATURDAY @WL
Big shout out to Cooper Donovan for hosting the jar making and to the (small) crew to helped get it all together! You're the real MVPs!
The Bazaar starts at 10am and will be held OUTSIDE in the WL Parking Deck. Please dress appropriately.
We sell pre-made cookie jar mix at the holiday bazaar and the proceeds go to support the team. You are welcome to come any time during the below shifts. Early shift gets donuts on me!
We ask everyone to come for some period of time, unless you are taking the SATs or at a club meet (and swimming at that time). Please check in if you plan to stop by after 1pm to ensure that we are still there and haven't sold out early.
930am - 11am - Set up and Selling
11am - 1230pm - Selling
1230pm - 2pm - Selling and Clean Up (*hopefully we sell out by 2pm, the Bazaar goes till 4pm)
Let me know if you have any questions!
Best,
Kristina

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TEAM!
I hope you all have a great holiday break and are ready to get back at it next week. Few reminders and updates for this week before you totally sign off, put on your stretchy pants, and enjoy time with your family and friends.
First up, two communication things... please follow us on social media (instagram and twitter). We will aim to live stream and also post live updates from the meet (mostly on instagram). We are at @wlswim.dive on Instagram and @wlswim on Twitter.
Also, we have a little over 100 kids on our roster this season (!) -- we will be aiming to maintain our tradition of including everyone in as many meets as possible. BUT as part of that, everyone will need to meet practice/team requirements to be eligible to swim... it takes a lot of work on our part to get everyone included in a lineup (as opposed to just swimming the fastest swimmers only), so please do your part to meet the requirements of the team membership as well.
DINNER SIGN UPS
As mentioned, we will be bringing our Thursday night dinners back! They will be held at WL in the cafeteria. We are looking for dinner 'hosts' for each week and then folks to bring pasta, salad, etc. Everyone attending will be asked to bring their own drink and a dessert to share.
We will be going over the lineup at dinner each week, and dinners are required to be eligible for a Varsity letter. If you have an extenuating circumstance, please let me know - otherwise we expect to see you at dinner each week (we all eat dinner every night, so just plan to do it with us)!
PRACTICE INFO
Practices next week will be our normal schedule thru the end of the season - Monday thru Thursday from 315pm - 445pm at WL.
Also, early heads up that our Holiday Break practice (Christmas/Holiday break) will be:
Dec 20-23 from 9:30-11:30 am
Dec 28 – 30 from 9:30-11:30 am
As a reminder unless you are a fulltime club swimmer, you are required to attend 3 of the 4 starting next week thru the end of the season. If you have a special circumstance or issue, please communicate that with me and we can work something out. If you are a fulltime club swimmer, you are required to attend ONE full practice each week.
MEETS
Our goal will be to start diving by 545/6pm -- swimming at 7pm. Just a quick heads up on timing for parents.
Divers - Coach Kristen will coordinate on your arrival time, based on what we hear from the other team about arrival.
Swimmers - for all home meets at WL, you will be asked to arrive at 545pm to watch diving, before we start warmups
Also, for club swimmers -- reminder, for club meets - if you are not swimming in the evening finals, the expectation is that you will attend the WL meet.
FUNDRAISER
We will be participating in the WL Holiday Bazaar on 12/4 at WL from 10am until we sell out. We sell pre-made cookie jar mix and the proceeds go to support senior night and record board updates. Everyone must participate/help sell jars! Also, if you are around for Thanksgiving, please get in touch with Cooper Donovan (or let me know and I can put you in touch) - he will be hosting the 'jar making' activity this Sunday afternoon. We usually only need about 10 or so people to help!
Let me know if you have any questions! Have a great break!
Best,
Coach Kristina

Thank you so much to those of you who have reached out and offered to help. I am still looking for a few volunteers.
- One Table worker per gender for each meet (ideally the same person for every meet)
- Someone to work the Colorado timing system at each home meet
- Someone to set up our volunteer dinner and meet sign up genius (this is more urgent so we can get it done next week - one time help!) :)

Hello Everyone!
First up, thank you to those of you who attended the team interest meeting and parent information night! I'll do a quick review of the basics here, just so we're all starting out on the same page! If you are receiving this email and no longer are interested in being on the team, please let me know.
Second, we are an email dependent team. I aim to send one email per week (usually by Wednesday) with all the information you need for the week/weekend ahead. Please be sure you have a current email address on file that you check regularly. While the emails can be long (sorry!) - everything you need to know typically is included so please read the whole email! We will also put all key information on our team website as well.
Now... on to the rest of the info!
PRACTICE INFO (BEFORE THANKSGIVING) - STARTS MONDAY!
Our practices are held Monday thru Friday from 315pm - 445pm at WL. After Thanksgiving, we move to Monday thru Thursday practices (same time). Divers: You will finish practice at 430pm each day, but follow the same schedule and requirements otherwise.
Unless you are a fulltime club swimmer, you are required to attend 4 of the 5 practices each week. If you have a special circumstance or issue, please communicate that with me and we can work something out. If you are a fulltime club swimmer, you are required to attend ONE full practice each week.
We start practice on Monday, 11/8 at 315pm. Please come ready to swim/dive! :)
MEETS
Meets are held on Friday evenings, usually starting around 6pm. When we get closer to our first meet, I will send out more information about how they will go -- but, as of now, we WILL have split gender meets so that we can have spectators present. Our meet schedule is posted on our team website. We will aim to continue with live streaming our meets for those who don't feel comfortable or aren't able to attend in person.
TEAM DINNERS
We will be restarting our weekly Thursday pasta dinners this year! They will be held at WL verse a family home to allow for more distancing opportunities. We will still organize them potluck style and ask for one or two 'host' families to coordinate (set up/clean up) the meal. More info on this to come!
GEARhttps://wlswimdive2021.itemorder.com/sale
Our gear store is open! Please get your orders placed as soon as possible -- a tswim suit, tshirt and caps are required. All orders are due 11/16. Shop here:PARENT VOLUNTEERS
I am in desperate need of a few very critical parent volunteers this year – please let me know if you are able to help with any of the following. If we don’t have enough volunteers, we will not be able to run our season.
- Someone to assist in managing team times/computer data, using the HyTek program.
- Head Official (assist in coordinating our officials for each meet and also officiate)
- One Table worker per gender for each meet (ideally the same person for every meet)
- Someone to work the Colorado timing system at each home meet
We will do a sign-up genius for each meet and for team dinners but would like to get the above folks lined up now, if possible.
Dive parents - Coach Johnston will be in touch on your specific volunteer needs.
PHYSICALS
As a reminder – please get your physical and parent permission forms turned in ASAP. They are required to participate in any sport at WL. New news this year – all submissions can now be done online! Look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
