Updated Information (1/20 @10:30am): Due to weather, tryouts postponed for 1/20. We will resume on Thursday (1/21). Pitchers and catchers should report at 3:30 p.m. in the gym and everyone else should be ready to go at 4:00 p.m. We will finish by 5:30 p.m. Please bring clothes for inside or outside. Please continue to check the website, Twitter or Remind notifications for any changes to this schedule.
Please find below information regarding tryouts for all players trying out for either JV or Varsity for the 2019 spring season. If you have any additional questions, please email Coach Leigh.
1) Schedule:
Tryouts will begin Tuesday, February 19th and will run a minimum of three days. Tryouts may extend longer if the coaching staff needs additional time to evaluate players.
If we are able to hold tryouts outside, please meet at the softball field at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 19th for check-in. Tryouts will run until 5:45 p.m. each day. After Feb. 19th, tryouts will begin at 3:45 p.m. and will run until 5:45 p.m.
If we need to move tryouts inside, our scheduled gym/cage time is from 3:15-5:30 each day. Please meet in the gym at 3:15 p.m.
Our goal is to be outside each day for tryouts, so we may need to make adjustments at the last minute--please be prepared for inside or outside each day. We will do our best to provide as much notice as possible on the schedule. If you have not signed up for W-L Softball Remind Notifications, please email Coach Leigh for instructions on joining. This will be the primary mode of communication for tryouts.
2) What to Bring:
Please bring all of your softball equipment each day of tryouts. At a minimum, you must have a softball glove to participate. It is helpful, but not necessary to own a bat or helmet. If we are outside, it is recommended that you bring cleats (metal or plastic spikes are acceptable). You will be required to wear sneakers/athletic shoes (no spikes) if we are inside. Please dress for the weather if we are outside--it may be cold.
3) Clearance:
You must be cleared by the W-L Athletic Trainer in order to participate. You will be sent home if you are not on the cleared list on the day of tryouts. To be cleared, you must turn in your VHSL Physical packet and Participation Agreement Form to the W-L Athletic Trainer (for 8th graders, please note this is different from physicals turned into your middle school--you must complete the VHSL physical packet to be cleared. See the Athletics Clearance page on the W-L Athletics Website for more information or email Coach Leigh if you have questions on whether you are cleared).
If you attended the interest meeting on Feb. 5th and were not cleared as of that date, you should have received an email notifying you that you are not cleared.
If you were not at the interest meeting on Feb. 5th, but intend to tryout (this includes returning JV/Varsity players), please email Coach Leigh prior to tryouts so that we can minimize the time devoted to administrative matters on the first day of tryouts.
4) Communication:
As noted above, we may need to make adjustments to the schedule at the last minute based on weather, etc. All changes to the schedule will be posted on the softball webpage, via Twitter (@WLHSoftball) and through the Remind App (if you did not receive instructions on signing up for Remind notifications, please email Coach Leigh).

WL Softball Players and Parents:
Please sign up to volunteer for our annual Christmas Tree Lot Fundraiser sponsored by the Arlington Lions Club. If you have not received the link to sign-up, please email Coach Leigh. We appreciate assistance from player and parent volunteers.
The tree lot's new location is at the corner of Columbia Pike and South Four Mile Run Drive across from Goodwill. We have a smaller number of trees this year with the goal of selling out by December 16th, so please sign up early.
Also, please encourage friends and family in the market for a Christmas Tree this holiday season to purchase their tree from the lot. We are competing against other local teams to refer the most customers to the lot, with the winning team receiving a prize. Please be sure to have all customers indicate that their purchase should count towards the Washington Lee Softball Program.
Thanks in advance for all your hard work, Generals!
