First, as you all know by now, there are no practices or team meetings, and all individual workouts are optional. All team members should follow APS guidelines for schoolwork to make the break productive.
Second, there is no guarantee that we will be able to resume the season after the 12th of April. Our last game for this season may well have been last Thursday (12 March). However, I hope that conditions change for the positive in such a way that we can resume practices after this month break, and still have some games.
With that in mind, we will email some individual softball workout ideas for you to stay in shape through the break. This can help you maintain a schedule and achieve your fitness goals. The following are things you can do on your own while at home:
1. Throwing progressions -- grab someone and do your throwing progressions outside several times a week. Keeping arms/shoulders limber is key.
2. Body weight exercises -- body weight squats, push-ups, leg lifts, and situps are great core strengthening activities.
3. Conditioning and speed -- try running, walking, or walk-running about 2 miles several times a week. Hate distance running? One of the most helpful formats for softball would be to walk or jog for five minutes, sprint hard for a minute, and then resume walking/jogging.
4. Flexibility -- shoulder and arm stretching is especially key. If you have resistance bands or light dumbells, use those to do shoulder raises, lateral raises, and shoulder shrugs.
The paper we will email will have more specific instructions on these exercises.
The coaches will remain available by email or over Remind if you have any questions or would like individual advice. Don't hesitate to reach out! I think I speak for all the coaches when I say working with the W-L athletes is the best part of our day, and we'll miss you over this break!
STAY INFORMED -- through this website, by joining the Varsity Softball Remind app, through our Twitter handle -- WLGeneralsSoftball@SoftballWl, and by providing email addresses to the coaches for the email blast list.
